Technical SEO and Core Web Vitals

Fast, crawlable, error-free pages that search engines can trust.

The short answer

Technical SEO is making sure search engines can crawl, render and understand your pages quickly and without errors. Core Web Vitals, which measure loading, responsiveness and visual stability, are part of it, and Google measures them using real visitor data.

Why it matters

If a page cannot be crawled, loads slowly, or breaks, content quality cannot save it. Technical problems are among the cheapest to fix and the easiest to detect.

Interaction to Next Paint (INP) replaced First Input Delay as the responsiveness measure. Industry reports say a large share of sites fail its 200 millisecond threshold, though the exact share varies by source.

Google uses field data from real Chrome users, not lab scores, so a good test result does not guarantee good real-world numbers.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Core Web Vitals?

Three measures of page experience: Largest Contentful Paint (loading, good at 2.5 seconds or less), Interaction to Next Paint (responsiveness, 200 milliseconds or less) and Cumulative Layout Shift (visual stability, 0.1 or less).

Do Core Web Vitals affect rankings?

Google includes page experience signals, and says great content matters most. Passing the thresholds helps, but it will not rescue a poor page.

How do I check my real-user numbers?

The Core Web Vitals report in Google Search Console and the PageSpeed Insights tool show real-user data when enough visits exist.
